Blepharoplasty

What is Blepharoplasty?

Are you tired of your tired-looking eyes? Howerton Eye offers blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelid surgery, to alleviate the droopy look of our patients’ eyes.

About Eyelid Surgery

Aging, genetics, and other environmental factors can leave eyes looking worn and weary. However, the skilled ophthalmologists at the Howerton Eye can reverse these effects and give your eyes a more refreshed appearance. This is done through the technological advancements of blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelid surgery. During this type of eye surgery, your ophthalmologist removes excess eyelid skin, resulting in a rejuvenated look.

Benefits

At a glance, there are several benefits to completing an eyelid surgery with the ophthalmologists at Howerton Eye, including:

The Initial Consultation

If you are interested in eyelid surgery, your first step will be to complete a consultation with one of our ophthalmologists. During this initial consultation, we will thoroughly discuss your treatment goals, the details of your surgery, risks involved, alternative treatments that may exist, and our recommendations. We will also talk about the cost of the surgery and your payment options. We firmly believe the more informed you are about your options, the more confident you will be in making the right treatment choice to fit your needs.

Look Younger Today

While blepharoplasty does not prevent the effects of aging, the procedure has proven to provide long-lasting results that will help you look younger and more refreshed—enhancing your appearance and confidence.

What to Expect During Surgery

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under sedation or general anesthesia. The excess fat and skin around your eyes will either be removed or repositioned to touch up the shape of your eyes.

Your ophthalmologist will make incisions either above the upper eyelid, below the lower eyelid, or both. This will allow your ophthalmologist to redistribute or remove fat deposits, tighten muscles, and remove excess skin layers. These incisions are made in carefully selected areas that will be best concealed by the natural folds of your eyelids. As a result, after surgery the incisions will either be barely noticeable or not noticeable at all.

Recovery

The recovery from blepharoplasty is usually very fast. A prescription medication and cold compresses may be used to alleviate any post-surgical discomfort, slight swelling, or bruising that may occur around the eyes. Any dry eye syndrome symptoms should subside within a week. As mentioned, because of the careful placement of surgical incisions within the contours of your eyes, scars will be as discreet as possible.

It is important to closely follow the instructions provided by your ophthalmologist to ensure an optimum recovery. If non-dissolvable sutures were used, you will need to come back into our Kyle, TX or Austin, TX offices approximately one week after surgery to have them removed.
